Disabling File Viewing Inside Browser

By default, many files will open in your browser window when you click a link to them. This limits some of the functionality of these files. If you would like to change these settings and have these files open in their respective programs, use the following instructions. If you do not wish to make these changes, you can always right-click the link to the file and choose Save Target As or Save Link As.

Microsoft Office Products

You will need to follow these steps for each different file type (doc, xls, ppt, etc.) you wish to change

  1. Close any open programs you may have running, especially your web browser
  2. Open My Computer or Windows Explorer
  3. Click the Tools menu
  4. Click Folder Options
  5. Click the File Types tab
  6. Scroll through the list of Registered file types until you find DOC - Microsoft Word Document
  7. Click DOC - Microsoft Word Document
  8. Click the Advanced button at the bottom of the window
  9. Uncheck the Browse in same window checkbox
  10. Repeat steps 6-9 for each file type
